Welcome to this course for health care providers. It explores the huge, often unexpected life changes that can come during the transition to parenthood, for both first-time parents and growing families.
The term 'transition to parenthood' includes all experiences in becoming a parent. This may include planning a family, fertility issues, perinatal loss, pregnancy, adoption or fostering and any experiences in adjusting to early parenthood.
As a health care provider, learning about major themes of this time can help you more effectively support the families you're working with. This includes helping them understand the ways that people can experience this intense time of change.
This module can also help you identify those experiencing, or at risk of:
- mental distress and ill-health
- emotional distress
- relationship issues
- other stressors that may be affecting their wellbeing.
