ONLINE WORKSHOP FOR MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH NURSES | New Parent Group Activities and Resources for Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Education
PANDA Maternal and Child Health Online Workshop
Friday 2 July, 10am to 1pm AEST with break (This live interactive workshop will not be recorded.)
Are you looking for new ideas and activities for your new parent group sessions?
New parent groups are the ideal space to break down stigma associated with mental illness, and encourage help-seeking and mutual support. Around one in five new mothers/birth parents experiences mental distress or illness. The issue also affects fathers/nonbirth parents.
PANDA has delivered emotional wellbeing education in new parent groups for many years. These sessions aim to create a safe, supportive space for everyone in new parent groups to open up about the challenges of new parenthood. Parents learn to recognise if they need support, and receive information about support options.
We also train health professionals to deliver our activities in their own groups. These activities encourage sharing, validation and help-seeking. But they are carefully structured to contain discussion and manage risk.
All participants receive a copy of PANDA’s education kit, including session plan, script, activity guides and cheat sheets, risk protocols, resources and a facilitator tip sheet.
This interactive workshop will cover:
- facilitation skills and adult learning
- barriers to disclosure and mutual support in groups
- validation and protective containment in response to disclosures.
Featuring a lived experience story, interactive role-plays and plenty of time for questions and discussion. Learn from each other and PANDA’s long-running education program.
Presented by experienced PANDA training and counselling and peer education staff.
